The Weirdest and Most Wonderful Flights Our Users Have Taken

22 June 2026

We got to read through some absolutely incredible flight stories when users were logging their histories. Some of them were genuinely remarkable.

The Ultra Long-Haul Champion

One user logged a flight from Melbourne to London but routed through Singapore, Dubai, and Cairo. It wasn't the best routing but they did it because they were visiting each city. By the time they got to London, they'd covered about 25,000 kilometres in a single journey.

They logged every segment. The whole journey told a story of a month-long adventure broken into flights.

The Aircraft Reunion Enthusiast

Someone had flown the same aircraft (VH-OJA, a Qantas A380) on six different occasions across a decade. They'd logged every single flight on that aircraft. Same plane, completely different trips, different times in their life. It's like a reunion story but with an airplane.

The Status Run Legend

We've got a user who did fifteen flights in six weeks specifically to hit Platinum status. They planned it out. Calculated the exact credits needed. Booked regional routes for maximum efficiency. Achieved the goal.

The commitment is wild. But they hit their target and felt genuinely proud about it.

The Casual Extremist

Someone had flown 847 flights and didn't seem to think it was unusual. Just casual flying across a couple decades. But the scale of it only becomes clear when you see it logged and totalled.

The Extreme Point-and-Forget Enthusiast

A user who flies regularly but never paid attention to their stats until they started using Jetmap. They discovered they'd flown over 2 million kilometres without really noticing. They'd just been commuting between cities for work and somehow covered the equivalent of going to the moon.

The International Nomad

Someone who spent two years basically living on flights. Different country every month, sometimes every week. Their flight data looks like a map of global connections. Not for work. Just for living.

General Observations

Our users fly way more than the average Australian. The median is around 150 to 200 flights per user. Some have done 30. Some have done 500. The spread is wild.

Most interesting thing? Almost everyone says they didn't realize how much they'd actually flown until they logged it. The number surprised them.

The Patterns

Most flights cluster around Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and the routes between. Gold Coast shows up a lot (holidays). Perth shows up less but is notable when it does.

International flights are concentrated on long-hauls. Not many people casually fly to New Zealand. But Sydney to London comes up regularly.

What We Learned

Australians fly more than we give ourselves credit for. We're a spread out country and it shows in the data.

People have wild stories. Some fly for work. Some fly for love. Some fly because they genuinely love flying. And they all have aviation stories worth telling.
